VTA to VTE Competition Catch Can Adapter Radium Engineering 20-1773

For high powered engines, Radium Competition Catch Cans (CCC) have a much larger capacity than standard Radium catch cans. There is a large (L) and extra large (XL) version of the CCC. The XL CCC meets the common 1 quart minimum capacity requirements dictated by many organizing bodies including SCCA, NASA, Formula Drift, etc.

FEATURES

This new iteration of the competition catch cans, now possess the ability to plumb the crankcase system in 2 different manners; vent to atmosphere and vent to engine.

Vent to Atmosphere (VTA): Out of the box, the competition catch can is configured to vent to atmosphere. The giant non-restrictive outlet is over 183% larger than the inner diameter of the 10AN inlets. This increase in volume slows air flow allowing vapors to fall out of suspension. Additionally, contaminants are trapped with a diffuser permitting the oil sludge to fall back into the catch can. This prevents the concern excessive overspray accumulating in the engine bay.

Vent to Engine (VTE): This system permits the purified air to recirculate back into the intake system. Simply removing the top 3 screws, the VTA plate can be swapped for the VTE plate and gasket. Very quickly, 2 additional 7/8"-14 (10AN ORB) ports are added to the catch can converting it to a dual inlet/dual outlet catch can.

When using this VTE setup, the top ports (pink) and the side ports (yellow) can be used interchangeably, ie: top ports are inlets and side ports are outlets or side ports are inlets and top ports are outlets.

  • When the throttle is open, the PCV valve closes and there is vacuum in the intake pipe.
  • The Radium Engineering PCV valve (sold separately) flow direction must be towards the intake manifold (vacuum).
  • An OEM PCV valve can ONLY be used if it is installed on the intake manifold from factory. If it is mounted on the breather port (valve cover), a PCV valve must be installed on the CCC.

PCV valve can be used with a VTE catch can to keep negative pressure in the crankcase at all times. The diagram below is specific to when the throttle is closed.

CONSTRUCTION

The CNC machined aluminum can unscrews for ease of serviceability. The CCC has a dual stage condensing material design (located in the inlet and outlet). These free flowing chambers do not create any flow restriction.

A threaded 4AN ORB port is integrated on the bottom for the ability to plumb a petcock drain valve.

The included bracket provides a ton of flexibility and permits full 360 degree rotation. Additionally, M6x1mm hardware is provided for chassis mounting.

All ports are machined with 10AN ORB (7/8"-14) threads. For engines that do not require all ports, simply use 14-0351 to plug any unnecessary port.

NOTES

  • The lower half of the body simply unscrews for draining.
  • The integrated dipstick unscrews for a quick way to check oil level.
  • Sold without fittings.
  • Catch cans are NOT designed to be used with aftermarket crankcase vacuum pumps.
