The Coolerworx NSB shifter for Audi A4, S4 and RS4 B6/B7 is a completely redesigned gear-shifting system developed specifically for the 6-speed transmission used in this platform. The new generation was engineered from the ground up to provide a more precise mechanical feel, improved rigidity and significantly easier installation compared with the previous Coolerworx design.
To achieve accurate fitment, the center console and transmission tunnel of an Audi B6 were fully 3D-scanned during development. This allowed the mounting components and surrounding parts to be designed specifically around the vehicle’s original geometry.
One of the main advantages of the new design is the installation process. The shifter uses a CNC-machined adapter plate matched to the contours of the transmission tunnel, allowing the complete mechanism to be installed from inside the car. There is no need to remove the exhaust system or prop shaft, and no cutting or trimming of interior components is required.
The NSB version is not an update of the previous Audi shifter. The entire system has been redesigned, including:
- new gear lever,
- new tower and frame construction,
- new internal mechanism layout,
- revised shift geometry,
- integrated self-centering spring.
Because the mechanism is positioned higher than the original gear shifter, Coolerworx also developed a dedicated plastic cover based on the 3D scan of the Audi B6 interior. It replaces the factory leather shift boot and provides a clean, well-integrated finish.
During development, around 20 different lever ratios were tested to find the configuration best suited to the Audi B6/B7 6-speed gearbox. The goal was not to create the shortest possible throw, but to achieve the correct balance between shift travel, leverage and mechanical feedback.
The result is a precise and direct Audi B6/B7 shifter with clearly defined gear engagement and a solid mechanical feel. Each shift provides a noticeable metal-click response, giving the driver greater feedback and control during both road and performance driving.
