Blow Off Adaptor Forge Motorsport FMDVMCS for Mini Cooper S R56 2007+

The FMDVMCS is a sandwich type adapter that is placed between the standard solenoid valve and the turbo shell on N14 engines for Mini (2006-2015), Peugeot 207, Citroen DS3 (before 2016).
On these engines there is a bypass system in the turbo shell. It allows the compressed air to be reinjected on the side of the turbo at the intake. The feedback path opens and closes with a signal from the on-board computer, which activates a solenoid valve mounted on the turbo shell. When you accelerate, the turbo's propeller spins and the air pressure is increased, literally pushing air into the engine's cylinders. Then when you shift gears, you release the throttle for a brief moment, select your gear, and accelerate again. When you take your foot off the gas, the throttle closes.
The problem here is that during this process the turbo continues to spin and the compressed air created has nowhere to go. (It's kind of like putting your hand in front of a hair dryer so the air doesn't escape.) At this point the turbo starts to stall, the propeller slows down under the pressure it's facing, and the air pressure drops. When you accelerate again, you reopen the throttle, but the turbo has no more compressed air in stock, it must start compressing again. So there is a lag time before the engine delivers its full power.

To combat this loss of power and the strain on the turbo, a dump valve is used. On the Mini, when the throttle closes, the programming opens the feedback circuit around the turbo. This allows the compressed air to be put aside and the turbo to continue spinning, so that when it comes time to accelerate, there is no "lag", or delay in response. This system works very well and has been adopted by almost all manufacturers for turbo gasoline engines. The only drawback to this system is that the turbo produces heat (Hot air coming out of the turbo passes through the intercooler, which cools it before it enters the engine. The cooler the air, the more power there is.) As the hot air is pumped back into the turbo's intake, temperatures rise. This is where the open circuit dump valve comes in. By expelling the compressed air out of the engine rather than keeping it out, you don't increase the air intake temperature, but you do allow the turbo to keep running. The trade-off that is unacceptable to most manufacturers is the noise of the dump valve as it expels air. By installing the FMDVMCS adapter between the solenoid valve and the turbo shell (which only involves removing 3 screws) the air is expelled into the atmosphere rather than being reinjected. Note that the programming also uses this valve to limit the engine power when necessary. For example for the ESP. Even if it should not happen to you, you will hear this dump valve adapter open circuit spitting out compressed air when the ESP starts (in a curve taken too fast for example).
